It would be interesting to learn how the mission patch got put on the suit. I believe the suit should have stayed original with out the patch.

I had that same question, as did Kris (Stoever), on Twitter, but then I noticed that one of the later photos in the set shows that the patch was removed in the process of preparing the suit for shipping...

Why is it being shipped to DC? Will it be restored and then placed back into exhibition or will it be stowed away with other spacesuits?

I don't think this is the flown suit.

Look at the neck zippers, Carpenter didn't have any. I have a letter from Joe Schmitt saying that the zippers had been removed at his request. Another thing is the NASA meatball is to high. The flown suit the meatball is right on top of the nametag. See the famous suit-up photo of the seven astronauts. Shepard has an old version of the suit, single neck zipper and the meatball up at shoulder level. This is a training suit. Possible the one used for the seven suit-up photo.

You are correct, and it is my mistake for not reading all the photo captions, which includes: "Scott Carpenter's name badge on his training suit." Apologies all for the confusion. I have made the correction to the first post so as to avoid anyone being further mislead.
